I'm a little slow getting caught up on this BUT we did get good news SO far! I went in for my first beta (blood pregnancy test) on Tuesday 7/17/07. The nurse asked if I had taken a home pregnancy test yet and I told her - no - I was too nervous. She said well why don't we do a urine test while we're doing the blood. I told her I'd drank a ton of water so we wouldn't have any problems drawing blood so she said humor me ;-) I was shaking so bad I could barely pee in the cup!! LOL She had the little test on the counter while she took my blood and kept checking it. Once she bandaged me up she looked and said - well it's positive! I said WHAT? Are you sure????? She said it was a little faint but getting darker and my urine was super diluted so it would have been fainter anyway but it was definitely positive! I burst out in tears. I honestly had no idea how I would ever react to a positive test as it's been 16 years since I've seen a positive!! LOL I was a blubbering lady!! Of course we thought it was just blood work so Nick stayed out in the waiting room so he missed the moment. :-( I tried to get myself together and we went out and saw my DR - she asked if I was ok since I couldn't stop crying. I said MORE than ok!!! The nurse handed her the pregnancy test and the DR said congratulations - made sure I had my prenatals and told me to come back in 2 days for another beta test. I don't even remember if I told her thank you! LOL I went out to the waiting room (which was packed that morning!) and waved for Nick to come out with me to the hall. I started crying again and handed him the test. He said - what is it negative?? I said NOOOOO!!! It's positive. So of course he was looking at me like I was nuts because I was crying. LOL I think it was tears of shock, happiness, and relief.
SO the nurse called me a few hours later and said my beta level is 85. She said it was a nice strong number. Hoping that is the case. :-) That would have been 13 days past retrieval/conception/ovulation. From this site http://www.betabase.info/showBasicChart.php?type=Single / http://www.betabase.info/showBasicChart.php?type=Multiple, it looks like it is probably just one - we'll see. If it is 1 then that is a really good strong number. I keep telling it/them to be strong and stubborn like it's/their daddy!! ;-)
We went in this morning for my 2nd beta test. I'm still a lot nervouse to get that call but I am feeling really tired and I'm still horribly bloated from the IVF so I'm hoping these are all good things. The cramping is better. I have twinges here and there and pulling feelings but not the full, painful cramping I did have so often. Anyway - if all goes well today (fingers crossed and praying like crazy!!) then we'll go in for our ultrasound in 12 days!
